My List of Animalish Words
In my book I wrote:
(In addition to sheepish, which means “sort of embarrassed,” I know piggish and wolfish. I wonder if there are other animalish words? I am putting a list of real and made-up ones on my website. You can help.)
Here’s how you can help. In your comments below, tell me your animalish word (real or made-up) along with: 1) a definition of what that word means or should mean, and 2) a sentence that can be fun or clever.
For example, I’m going to start with snailish, which I don’t think is a word, but if it were a word, it would mean really slow.
My grandfathers, neither of whom can run, had a totally snailish footrace.
Or how about eagleish, which I think would mean having excellent eyesight.
No one messes around in class because my eagleish teacher sees everything.
Go for it!
(Read over the comment list first to see what other kids have written. Some of them are really good, really clever, and really funny,)
Dogish, meaning loyal
(its a real word)
You are right! It is a real word…and a good one!
Flounder is a good one, it means to not be able to make a decision
Excellent answer. FLOUNDER is terrific.
Hawks are really used to killing their pray, so-
My sister is really hawkish when it comes to the basketball court-which would mean she was used to winning.
I could also say-my sister is just plain snakeish-which would mean she was really mean.
I’m sure you can relate.
HEY YOU STOLE MAH IDEA!!!!!
My word is fishy or fishish meaning REALLY REALLY SMELLY and something does not seem correct at all.
Fishish is not a real word, but it’s very much fun to say out loud.
Well, I have a real word. Sluggish.
I was feeling sluggish at school after the Thanksgiving break.
Oh! Sluggish means slow-moving, lacking energy, sort of like snailish.
Totally excellent, Chris! Maybe my mind was sluggish when I made up this page or I would’ve thought of that word!
No one can get away with anything in my class because of my teacher’s hawkish eyes and ears.
Excellent “animalish” word! But I would not include ears in the sentence because hawks do not have extra good hearing.
I always thought they had good hearing
Danish… You know like the dog great Dane, and the language…. Hahahahahah
doggish fishy hairy cattish
sentence: my brother was being cattish as he eavesdropped on me and my friends
Made up animalish word:Doggish 1)Really super JUMPY 2)I was super doggish when I got to go to a sleepover. True!
I bet you have a dog that is very jumpy. That’s why you wrote this.
Salmonish — to go the wrong way ( get it, like a salmon swims up stream?)
Oops! Sorry . Sentence: Jake looked very SALMONISH as he went the wrong way in a race.
I love this! Very creative.
fishish 1)good at swimming 2)blaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh
giraffeish very very tall
Duck. To crouch down. I had to duck when the baseball flew toward me.
That’s a good word, but it isn’t exactly an ANIMALISH word because it doesn’t end with ISH.
Goonish: being really mean like Goon is
HAHA! I never thought of that one. She is an animal, you know.
