There is a lake right near the place where three states (Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island) touch. This lake may not look very big on a map, but I’m pretty sure it is the longest lake in the world.
Longest in terms of its name, I mean.
Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is sort of on the way from my house to Gumpy & Meemo’s house in New Haven. Every time we drove by it, I tried to read the sign and memorize the name. But it’s funny how your brain works. When I saw the sign coming up, I would tell myself to start in the middle (because I already had the first part memorized), but no matter how hard I tried, my eyes would always go to the start of the name.
I finally did get the whole thing memorized, but then I found out the name on the sign is actually MISSPELLED! In two places! Can you spot the errors?
The name is Native American and comes from the Nipmuc language. People think it means something like “fishing place at the boundaries — neutral meeting grounds.” But other people say it means “You fish on your side. I fish on my side. Nobody fishes in the middle.” (Granpa says that’s a bunch of hooey!)
If you want to hear how the name is pronounced, here’s Granpa saying it.
If you memorize the name, please comment below. And if you know any other weird geographical names (only real ones!), please tell me.
hey, cheesie, for some reason I can not listen for to the recording, although my laptop has adobe 10.
I think there’s a glitch on my website. I will ask my Aunt Brenda to help fix it. I’ll let you know.
Hey Cheeessssssiiieee. Can I get a Iphone11 MAX PRO Thanks.
Of course you can! They are just sitting on the shelves in every Apple Store. Go for it.
Hi one time i went to my camp called camp daydreams with my best friend fron school for one whole week and when we went to go stay at a haunted house me and my friends wrestled the orlder kids.
That sounds like one of my adventures.
Hey Cheesie, I just want to say I love your books. Anyways, I just found out the longest word in the English language is 189,819 letters long and takes 3 and a half hours to say. Apparently it’s the scientific name for a protein called titin.
That is a long word. I asked my science teacher, and he said it is the same chemical name in every language, so it is not actually an English word.
Oh. Well it is still very long. 3 and a half hours!
Wow. The name of that lake is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long that instead of pronouncing it the right way, I pronounce it something like this:
Lake Chugga-ma-go-gagg-gog-ga-gog-go-manch-augog-gog-gagga-cha-buna-gun-gam-augg.
I’m very sure that’s not how you’re supposed to pronounce it. I think the really hard part about pronouncing the lake’s name is that it’s really hard to put all those letters together.
I know. It’s super hard. But my Granpa can do it soooo easily.
Hahaha that’s such a long name I can’t even read it! Lol
I go to camp seafarer for girls. There is a camp 5 miles away called camp seagull 4 boys. It’s in north carolina. Look it up at http://www.seagull-seafarer.org.
P.S. I am going to 2nd Session at camp for 4 weeks. My brother is going to camp seagull for 2 weeks. (He is 7.)

I wish you could go to my camp, too. Maybe you’d be in my cabin.
It’s pretty funny. I had a middle school teacher in Palm Harbor, FL who taught me the name of this lake. I forget if it was 6th, 7th or 8th grade. Nevertheless, it was more than 25 years ago and I still remember the name of this lake. If it wasn’t already committed to my memory, I’m fairly certain I couldn’t remember the name of this lake now if my life depended on it.
I’ve actually fished in that lake!
Do you have a girl friend tell me please
Nope.
Why did you put that Strang word on number seven
Number seven? I’m confused about what you mean.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before but; WHO COMES UP WITH THESE NAMES?! like seriously it could be lake happy butterfly or something but they made it Lake super long name. You know?
Answer: I don’t know how the names get picked. But I would love to fish in Lake Happy Butterfly.

That word is so long !!!I invented a word called
kreakeyo . It means brain .😄🐶🐱I got 10 pets and none of them have long names
it translates as : City of angels, great city of immortals, magnificent city of the nine gems, seat of the king, city of royal palaces, home of gods incarnate, erected by Vishvakarman at Indra’s behest
Wow! Think of how awful it would be if you lived there and had to right that every time you wrote your home address!
there’s this weird place name in Thailand (im from it) and it goes like this: Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit

Yo, Max! You are obviously a brilliant guy (because I am your favorite)!
this is such a long name cheesie but I love it is there a beach on trhe lake?
You know, I can’t remember. It’s been so long since Granpa and I went there to fish.
I thought you might like this recording. https://audioboom.com/boos/54745-how-to-pronounce-chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg
I think it is wrong! Listen to both Granpa and this other guy. The guy says “gog” at the end, but it’s supposed to be “maug.”
Weird name…..but what is the use of such a long name if some people cant even say it??????
Good comment. That’s really smart of you.
There’s a geyser called “Whakarewarewa” in New Zealand.

Amazing, huh?
The mistakes:
ERASED
{I erased what you wrote. You were absolutely correct, but I didn’t want other readers to see the answer.}

I think it’s harder to spell it than to say it.
A weird place I found is Boring,Tennese.
I bet it’s fun to live there.
Your funny Cheesie and I really enjoy your books.
Thanks, Brianna!
One of my friends lives in Boring, TN!
Like I said to another commenter, “I bet it’s fun to live there.”
everyone probably knows this, mary pippins:supercalfiragilisticexpialodocious
made up
i read in a book that the longest word in the world has 6,000 letters.
I read that, too…but it’s a chemical name, so it really isn’t English.
you said that how to pronounce it would be here but Steve Colter came to my school witch is Wauconda Grade School!
The pronunciation is on this page. Just click on the sound file.
Two things:
1. I memorized pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis too.
2. The guy who made up the word for a fear of long words (word is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaaliophobia) is a real jerk.
The longest word in the world is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a lung disease.
I memorized it!!!
You’re right, except it’s a medical word…and medical and chemical words are sort of made-up.
that word is really big
I know a hill called taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu. I know a fear called hippopotomonstrosesquippedaaliophobia is a fear of long words
Haha!
the irony is too strong
I think you are the first ever to use the word “irony” in a Cheesie comment. It’s a good word!
I memorized it! My teacher was astounded when she saw/heard it.
Good JOB!
I want to memorize it. “Stupid name”,said the granpa haha!
I hope you do.
I memorized it!!!
Good job!
WHY IS THAT DA NAME!!!!!??????
If you read what I wrote, the answer is there.
